Movember is an initiative that has turned November into the male cancer fight month. For thirty days, solidarity initiatives are held around the world that seek to raise funds to help fight cancers such as prostate or testicular cancer.

In L’Hospitalet, this Sunday the Movember party was held at the Debut restaurant. A party organized by the restaurant, Can Tisores, the Pessics de Ciencia program of the L’Hospitalet City Council, and IDIBELL to raise funds for prostate cancer research.

Vermouth time has been chosen by the Debut restaurant and the Can Tisores hairdresser to celebrate the party. All participants with a beard were invited to shave and grow a mustache to collaborate with the Movember movement. To refresh the day, a solidarity bar has also been set up, all the profits have been destined for research.

Álvaro Aytés, group leader of IDIBELL and the Catalan Institute of Oncology, has participated in a ten-minute about the research that they are carrying out and the prospects for prostate cancer.

The day has been enlivened by the performance of nine different DJs and conducted by the humorist from L’Hospitalet Raúl Alcaraz, who energized the solidarity auction that has been carried out in favor of the investigation.

It has been a festive and charitable initiative that has not only helped to raise money for research but has also made it possible to make the population aware of the importance of keeping investigating and carrying out all the necessary medical check-ups since early detection is often the best weapon against cancer.

The Bellvitge Biomedical Research Institute (IDIBELL) is a biomedical research center created in 2004. It is participated by the Bellvitge University Hospital and the Viladecans Hospital of the Catalan Institute of Health, the Catalan Institute of Oncology, the University of Barcelona and the City Council of L’Hospitalet de Llobregat.

IDIBELL is a member of the Campus of International Excellence of the University of Barcelona HUBc and is part of the CERCA institution of the Generalitat de Catalunya. In 2009 it became one of the first five Spanish research centers accredited as a health research institute by the Carlos III Health Institute. In addition, it is part of the “HR Excellence in Research” program of the European Union and is a member of EATRIS and REGIC. Since 2018, IDIBELL has been an Accredited Center of the AECC Scientific Foundation (FCAECC).
