Our institute

IDIBELL is a research center that integrates the biomedical research of the Bellvitge University Hospital (HUB), the Catalan Institute of Oncology (ICO), and the University of Barcelona in the Bellvitge Campus (UB), and the Viladecans Hospital (HV). The research focuses of IDIBELL are cancer, neuroscience, translational medicine and regenerative medicine. Research, innovation and society are the pivots on which researchers work every day in order to improve the quality of life of citizens.

IDIBELL is located in L’Hospitalet de Llobregat, south of Barcelona. It is a member of the Campus of International Excellence of the University of Barcelona (HUBc) and Research Centers of Catalonia (CERCA). In 2009, it became one of the first five Spanish research centers accredited as a health research institute by the Health Institute Carlos III. In 2015, the European Commission recognized IDIBELL with the ‘HR Excellence in Research’ award, which identifies IDIBELL as a provider and supporter of a stimulating research work environment.

 

About the Department

IDIBELL vision is to conduct excellent research that integrates knowledge and innovation in health contributing to the improvement of the quality of life citizens. IDIBELL is living an exceptional opportunity with the building of the Health Biocluster with the support and leadership of the L’Hospitalet City Council. For doing so, fostering business development and innovation is key.

The Business Development and Innovation Department at IDIBELL is responsible for the follow-up of research, both at early and more mature stages, for going with researchers in the process of evaluation, development, and transference to the market.

 

About the role

 We are looking for a candidate to lead the Business Development and Innovation Department at IDIBELL. The candidate is expected to lead all the activities related with project identification, stage evaluation, business development and technology transfer to impact citizens’ health. Furthermore, the candidate is expected to build and sustain the business and innovation culture as well as the innovation network aimed at fostering innovation and as well as facilitating its transference to the market.

We are expecting a business and commercial profile, proactive, empathetic person and with the ability to lead a team of passionate and young people.

  • Evaluation of research projects and activities developed at IDIBELL to identify business and development opportunities
  • Intellectual Property management of the research projects, as well as exploitation in terms of patents, licensing agreements and spin-off creation.
  • Support and guide of IDIBELL researchers along the valorization of research projects, since the project definition and innovation training, to the project exploitation.
  • Collaborate in the design and implement a strategy to foster innovation among IDIBELL researchers, definition of institutional policies related to innovation, intellectual property and spin-off, as well as fostering a innovation culture.
  • Ensure the alignment with the Innovation areas within the Campus (main IDIBELL partners).
  • Planning the Business Development and Innovation annual action plan.
  • Design and implementation of innovation-institutional projects, such as Plataforma ITEMAS ISCIII, and other opportunities that might appear.
  • Management and supervision of the Department: team management, coordination, and budgeting.
  • Ensure the alignment with the Innovation areas within the Campus (main IDIBELL partners).
  • Planning the Business Development and Innovation annual action plan.
  • Design and implementation of innovation-institutional projects, such as Plataforma ITEMAS ISCIII, and other opportunities that might appear.
  • Management and supervision of the Department: team management, coordination, and budgeting.

 

Job requirements

Professional experience

  • Professional experience is required; at least 5 years of demonstrated track record and skills gained with similar responsibilities
  • Professional experience in health science, bioengineering or equivalent
  • Professional experience in business development in private and/or public sector.
  • Knowledge of the Bio-Health entrepreneurship environment.

Education and training

  • Holder of a University Degree preferably in health science, bioengineering or equivalent. Candidates with a PhD will be prioritized

Technical skills

  • Excellent negotiation skills.
  • Networking and collaboration skills across a range of audiences, including researchers, clinicians, funding agencies, venture capitals, private companies, et
  • Good team-working skills, ability to effectively manage multiple activities or projects of varying complexity with conflict priorities involving cross-functional teams and aggressive time constraints and workload

Languages

  • Good command of the English language

Selection process
