IDIBELL does not understand research as a cold discipline, but rather the opposite: it is the product of a chain of human and professional reactions, where research and everyday life are connected and dynamically feedback on each other. And even more so when it comes to research in health and the field of health, in which the impact on the individual and the population is direct and indisputable.
To illustrate this in a creative way and to highlight the research carried out at Bellvitge, which is public, rooted in our territory and fully focused on patients, IDIBELL will soon premiere a new audiovisual series called [RE]accions Bellvitge. The project was presented today at the Hyatt Regency Barcelona Tower Hotel, in an event hosted by Sara Sansuan, actress and communicator from L’Hospitalet de Llobregat. During the event, the first four videos of the series were premiered while talking to some of its protagonists.
The essence of [RE]accions: humanizing research
Created to be disseminated on social networks, [RE]accions Bellvitge aims to bring research closer to the public through its protagonists: the scientists of IDIBELL, who will appear before the camera to give visibility to the most human side of our company’s research. And they will do so uniquely, having a date in an unusual place relatively far from romanticism (or not so much): a transformed laboratory, with an aesthetic universe inspired by the Bellvitge neighborhood. Thus, in this first season (trailer here), each of the four chapters will reflect a date with an IDIBELL scientist, who will show his or her most personal and spontaneous side and how it interrelates with his or her professional facet.
Our protagonists will have dates with their real partners, friends, colleagues from other centres or surprise characters. Energized by daring approaches that seek to generate genuine reactions, these dates will provide the perfect excuse to talk about the day-to-day of research with humour and will allow us to discover, humanizing science, the people hidden under white coats. It will be through them, their personal stories, experiences, and motivations, that the social proximity of our health research will become evident. The first season of the series has had the participation of Susana Jiménez and Fernando Fernández-Aranda, Maria Molina and Christian Guiriguet, Jordi Guiu and Teresa D’Altri, and Jose Llamas and Alexandra Matrero.
From the research to the personal facet; from the laboratory to the neighbourhood
In the same way that work and personal life are necessarily intertwined, another of the unavoidable connections is that of the laboratory and the street. This is a connection that was already anticipated during the IDIBELL open day, Sinergia, in which, quite literally, the laboratory went out into the street and the residents of Bellvitge entered the laboratories (find out here). Sharing the story and aesthetics “from the lab to the neighbourhood“, Sinergia served as an introduction to [RE]accions Bellvitge, highlighting the pride of belonging to a diverse and dynamic institution, neighbourhood, and city such as L’Hospitalet de Llobregat.
This continuum of unique interconnected projects highlights the accumulated experience and constant evolution of IDIBELL as a research center committed to scientific dissemination and communication, understanding them as a fundamental part of science. A science that must not only be done, but also shared transparently with the population to make citizens participants and co-protagonists of scientific knowledge.
[RE]accions Bellvitge is an IDIBELL project carried out thanks to the support of the city council of L’Hospitalet and the FECYT (Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology).
The Bellvitge Biomedical Research Institute (IDIBELL) is a research centre created in 2004 and specialising in cancer, neuroscience, translational medicine and regenerative medicine. It has a team of more than 1,500 professionals who, from 73 research groups, publish more than 1,400 scientific articles a year. IDIBELL is owned by the Bellvitge University Hospital and the Viladecans Hospital of the Catalan Institute of Health, the Catalan Institute of Oncology, the University of Barcelona and the City Council of L’Hospitalet de Llobregat.
IDIBELL is a member of the Campus of International Excellence of the University of Barcelona HUBc and is part of the CERCA institution of the Generalitat de Catalunya. In 2009 it became one of the first five Spanish research centres accredited as a health research institute by the Carlos III Health Institute. In addition, it is part of the HR Excellence in Research program of the European Union and is a member of EATRIS and REGIC. Since 2018, IDIBELL has been an Accredited Centre of the AECC Scientific Foundation (FCAECC).
