This Tuesday, January 23, the Viladecans Contra el Càncer Association made a donation of 35,000 euros to IDIBELL. The event was attended by representatives of the collaborating associations, Maria Gato, president of the Association, Carles Ruiz, mayor of Viladecans, Gabriel Capellá, director of IDIBELL and head of the hereditary cancer research group, and the researchers who have received the impulse of the association this year.

The donation, which is the result of the solidarity campaigns organized by the Association throughout 2023, will be used to finance the acquisition of dermatoscopes that facilitate the diagnosis of melanomas, statistical support for epidemiological studies of gynecological cancers and research in nutrition and cancer. The projects are led by the Viladecans Hospital doctors Yolanda Fortuño and Glòria Tena, and by the IDIBELL researcher Raul Zamora-Ros.

During the event, which took place at the Pablo Picasso Athenaeum of Entities in Viladecans, the research project that will motivate the Association’s 2024 campaign was also announced. Led by Oscar Martínez-Tirado, the project aims to advance the diagnosis and early treatment of sarcomas.

The Viladecans Contra el Càncer Association, formed by civil society entities and based on volunteerism, began collaborating with IDIBELL in 2016, collecting funds for cancer research. To date, it has already contributed a total of €163,000 to biomedical research.
