Viladecans The Style Outlets will hold, on December 11, the award ceremony for the II VTSO Health Innovation Award, in which the winning project will be announced. This second edition has achieved great success in terms of applications. Almost thirty projects for teams and departments from some of the most relevant healthcare or health innovation centers in the province of Barcelona have been presented, to which are also added centers from the XarSMART network located in other Catalan provinces.
The purpose of the award, which is endowed with 15,000 euros and has the collaboration of IDIBELL – XarSMART, is to promote the transfer to the market and society of high-level projects within the field of health products, digital health and advanced therapies.
The three finalist projects are:
“CONAN Project”- [Controlled-replication Oncolytic Adenovirus] presented, in the category of Advanced Therapies, by the Institut d’Investigació Biomèdica de Bellvitge (IDIBELL). It aims to generate an oncolytic adenovirus with controlled replication for the treatment of cancer, through a system that allows control of the progression of the advanced therapy (CELYVIR) should begin to replicate this virus.
“ODISEA Project”, presented, in the Digital Health category, by the Institut d’Investigació Biomèdica de Girona (IDIBGI), the Institut d’Investigació en Atenció Primària (IDIAP Jordi Gol) and the Josep Trueta University Hospital of Girona. It proposes the development of software to improve the care process for acute myocardial infarction by optimizing the coordination and flow of information between the healthcare providers responsible for the patients. The result is a considerable reduction in treatment time and better case selection.
“SEALING SYSTEM Project”, presented, in the Health Products category, by the Sant Joan de Déu Hospital, Barcelona; the Hospital Clínic of Barcelona; and the Sarrià Chemical Institute. It proposes the novel development of a sealing system to prevent iatrogenic rupture – an unwanted consequence of medical intervention – of amniotic membranes. It is applied after endoscopic fetal surgery, avoiding complications of surgery, and reducing prematurity.
The VTSO Health Innovation Award, created by Viladecans The Style Outlets in 2022, is part of its commitment to generating a positive impact in the community in which it operates.
About XarSMART
XarSMART is an initiative promoted by the IDIBELL and financed by the Agència de Gestió d’Ajuts Universitaris i de Recerca (AGAUR), which works to train the Catalan health sciences ecosystem to generate new medical technologies and new companies and increase the transfer to the market of high-level projects in the areas of personalized precision medicine, health products and data science. XarSMART is made up of 13 member institutions, a total of 30 research groups and more than 345 researchers. Among the different activities developed, the promotion of initiatives such as the “VTSO-XarSMART Health Innovation” awards seeks to accelerate the transfer process and provide support to the network’s innovative projects.
