The fourth edition of Sinergia arrives, the festival of health research and innovation of L’Hospitalet

  • Throughout the week of October 3rd to 8th, gymkhanas, talks, visits, and many other activities will bring science from the Bellvitge Campus closer to the public.
  • On Saturday, activities for all ages on the Open Day will end with a great party.
  • Seven scientific monologues from the Stand-up Science series, three research capsules Quinaciència! and four Tapas of Innovation will be released in the sinergia.l-h.cat website.

Sinergia will open its doors to cutting-edge research carried out by the health institutions that work together in Bellvitge, one of the most active poles in biomedical research and health care. The fourth edition of Sinergia will disseminate and share the responsible and innovative IDIBELL research, the Catalan Institute of Oncology, the Bellvitge University Hospital, the University of Barcelona, and the Sant Joan de Déu Hospital, involving society to achieve a higher impact on Health.

During the week of October 3 to 8, the following will take place: the already traditional open day, this year full of novelties (Saturday, October 8); three round tables focused on three diseases to exchange concerns between health professionals, patients, and the general public (Thursday, October 6); guided visits to the Campus Bellvitge facilities; and as always, a multitude of multimedia material to bring science closer to society. Sinergia is the festival of research and innovation in health in L’Hospitalet, led by the City Council of L’Hospitalet and framed in the strategic project 4locaLHealth: Research, Innovation and Health in the territory through personalized medicine (PECT, co-financed with European FEDER funds).

 

Open Day

On Saturday, October 8th, Sinergia will celebrate its Open Day at the Bellvitge Campus with three activities open to the public. On the one hand, the IDIescape, the laboratories escape room, will once again challenge the participants to find the cure for a deadly infection attacking the city. Three sessions will be held (one at 10 a.m., one at 11 a.m., and the last at 12 p.m.). It is necessary to reserve a place at: https://bit.ly/IDIescape22

As a novelty of this edition, a gymkhana for family audiences will be organized. Through discovery tests and a mobile application the participants will go around the campus to discover all its secrets and locations. Registration is also needed to participate: https://bit.ly/AventuraBellvitge22

On Saturday, it will also be possible to visit IDIBELL laboratories and experience the research in person. The first shift, at 10:30 a.m., will culminate with a talk by Dr. Esteban Hoijman “The fantastic embryo: filming the beginning of life”. The day will include a final party in the garden of the Duran i Reynals hospital. Then it will take place the gymkhana award and a performance by the EMCCA Gipsy Project, from the School of Music and Arts Center of L ‘Hospital.

Research and Health

On Thursday, October 6th, the Museu de L’Hospitalet-L’Harmonia (plaça Josep Bordonau i Balaguer) will host, starting at 5:00 p.m., the conference “Research and Health: we are close to you”. This act is open to patients, relatives and the general public and will offer three dialogues focused on three diseases investigated at Bellvitge (no prior registration is necessary). During the day, the audience and speakers will have the opportunity to discuss the topics they wish.

At 5:00 p.m., the conference will start by talking about the human papillomavirus and gynecological cancers, with the researcher Raquel Ibáñez Pérez (ICO and IDIBELL) and the medical oncologists Marta Gil and Beatriz Pardo (ICO). At 6:00 p.m., the conference will focus on heart failure, with Josep Comín (HUB and IDIBELL) and Rosana Moyano (CorAvant-AACIC Foundation). Finally, at 7 p.m., Anna Sintes (HSJD) and Mireia Hernández, a patient mother, will talk about mental health in children and adolescents.

 

Media content. We bring science closer to society

The website sinergia.l-h.cat will once again be the platform on which the virtual aspect of Sinergia will be held.

Seven new monologues from the successful Stand-up Science series will be released. These monologues give the opportunty to the youngest researchers at IDIBELL to talk about their research differently, through YouTube and with a humorous-scientific talk. This is a project created thanks to the alliance between Torre Barrina, the City Council of L’Hospitalet, and IDIBELL.

Throughout the week, three new Quinaciència! capsules will be presented. In these capsules, researchers will talk about their projects and careers. This year, the series Quinaciència! It will be starred by the researcher Carolina Florian, who will refer to her research on stem cells and ageing, and the researchers Carles Soriano, who will talk about obsessive-compulsive disorder; and Álvaro Aytés, who will do it on prostate cancer.

This year returns the dissemination of health innovation, a process by which basic research is aligned with the clinical practice interests. This year, Cindy Lembart and Xavier Puñet will present the project “i4Kids: Innovative solutions for maternal and child health”; M. Ángeles Domínguez, Sara Martí, and Aida González will present “The human microbiome: An ally of personalized medicine”; Òscar Martínez-Tirado and Gisela Lorente will present the spin-off company “Aptadel Therapeutics: The molecular key for the treatment of sarcoma”; and Carmen Moreno will lead visitors through “SIMvirUCI: From the virtual classroom to the sickbed”.

 

Student visits

Sinergia will also reserve spaces for Bellvitge Campus students of the University of Barcelona, ​​who will be able to visit the scientific-technical services of IDIBELL; the humanized boxes of the ICU, the advanced medical-surgical simulation center, and the operating theaters of the Bellvitge Hospital; the robotic pharmacy of the Catalan Institute of Oncology; the hypobaric chamber and Farmatec of the University of Barcelona; or the 3D simulator of the Sant Joan de Déu Hospital. In turn, vocational training students from L’Hospitalet will participate in a hackathon as part of the eSENIOR project. And for the ESO students of the IDIBELL educational Tandem with the Bellvitge Institute, Sinergia has prepared a visit to the laboratories and two scientific and motivating talks by Joan Roncero and Laura Asensio.

 

The Bellvitge Biomedical Research Institute (IDIBELL) is a biomedical research center created in 2004. It is participated by the Bellvitge University Hospital and the Viladecans Hospital of the Catalan Institute of Health, the Catalan Institute of Oncology, the University of Barcelona and the City Council of L’Hospitalet de Llobregat.

IDIBELL is a member of the Campus of International Excellence of the University of Barcelona HUBc and is part of the CERCA institution of the Generalitat de Catalunya. In 2009 it became one of the first five Spanish research centers accredited as a health research institute by the Carlos III Health Institute. In addition, it is part of the “HR Excellence in Research” program of the European Union and is a member of EATRIS and REGIC. Since 2018, IDIBELL has been an Accredited Center of the AECC Scientific Foundation (FCAECC).
