On the occasion of the ‘festa major’ of Bellvitge, an annual celebration which takes place in this district of L’Hospitalet from September 7 to 15, researchers of the Oncobell program of the Bellvitge Biomedical Research Institute (IDIBELL) present the #josalvovides fundraising campaign for cancer research from an informative stand. This action, which has been possible thanks to the collaboration with the City of L’Hospitalet, serves as a dissemination vehicle for IDIBELL and Oncobell’s research ang targets all citizens, with special emphasis on the neighbours of Bellvitge.
Throughout the week, the researchers of the Oncobell program will be carrying out activities aimed at people of all ages; anyone who visits the stand may, for example, play a very particular darts game that targets tumor cells, see real samples at the microscope or dress as a scientist for a day. Furthermore, this is a unique opportunity to get to know the heroes who, thanks to the donations received through We save lives, carry out first-level research to find new treatments and improve the quality of life of cancer patients.
This year, the commemoratory events of September 11th in L’Hospitalet will also be tied to solidarity, one of the most characteristic traits of the citizens of L’Hospitalet. Under the joint motto “We have it in us”, IDIBELL and the Blood and Tissue bank of Catalonia participated in the traditional floral tribute that has been celebrated in the center of the city for the past 25 years. At the same time, the event featured informative stands of the two institutions, a small exhibition about the importance of the research, and the performance of the School of Music-Center of the Arts of L’Hospitalet.
We Save Lives is IDIBELL’s fundraising campaign, which in 2019 is dedicated to the cancer research carried out by the Oncobell program for molecular mechanisms and experimental cancer therapy. Since the beginning of the year, citizens, companies and the media can contribute by donating through the website josalvovides.cat, attending campaign events and disseminating the message.
