The Bellvitge Biomedical Research Institute (IDIBELL) has been re-accredited this May by the Institute of Health Carlos III as a health research institute. This certification maintains its excellence in research and proper funding, ensuring the proper use of public and private resources of the centre. The Institute will be able to continue accessing different research programs to obtain funding to develop new projects and guarantee the maintenance and improvement of current technical and human resources.

IDIBELL became one of the first five Spanish ISCIII-certified health research centers in 2009. In December 2018 the renewal of accreditation was requested. A group of auditors from the Institute of Health Carlos III conducted the analysis visit on April 2nd and 3rd, 2019, and issued their final report on May 14th. Finally, on May 30th, 2019, the Evaluation Committee adopted the agreement to issue a favorable report for the accreditation of IDIBELL.

This reaccreditation involves being part of a network of institutes linked to the National Health System, and allows IDIBELL to use it as an element of dissemination of their research activities. Together with the CERCA certification, which was also obtained at the beginning of 2019, IDIBELL positions itself as a pole of health research excellence in translational research, fostering cooperation between basic and clinical research.

IDIBELL is one of the 31 accredited health research institutes, 7 of which are in Catalonia: August Pi i Sunyer Biomedical Investigation Institute (IDIBAPS), Biomedical Research Institute of Lleida (IRBLleida), Vall d’Hebron Research Institute (VHIR), Institut d’Investigació en Ciències de Salut Germans Trias i Pujol (IGTP), Sant Pau Biomedical Research Institute (IIB Sant Pau) and Research Institute of the Hospital del Mar (IMIM).
