The Bellvitge Biomedical Research Institute has been awarded 176,734€ in order to carry out the “ICABELL – Internationalization of biomedical research on the Bellvitge Campus” project, whose main researcher is Dr. Josep Manuel Menchón. The aid is part of the Call for Boosting Actions: Europe Networks and Managers – Europe Technology Centers 2017, which is promoted by the State Research Agency of the Ministry of Economy, Industry and Competitiveness. The project, which will be ongoing until the end of 2018, aims to strengthen the internationalization of the biomedical research carried out in Bellvitge.

The ICABELL project team will implement a strategy aimed at improving participation in projects linked to thematic axes of the European Commission Horizon 2020 program and other international programs. The amount received will be invested in optimizing management and broadening the international role of the institute. To this end, a specific training plan will be offered to the management staff involved and the researchers, as well as networking actions that encourage and foster collaboration with other national and international entities, with a focus on companies.

ICABELL is an initiative of IDIBELL that will contribute to enhance the international activity of the institute’s partners (Catalan Institute of Oncology, University Hospital of Bellvitge, University of Barcelona and Viladecans Hospital), whose research is managed at IDIBELL.

IDIBELL’s mission is to promote and facilitate translational research of scientific excellence that integrates innovation and technology transfer in biomedicine, to achieve the continuous improvement of health and quality of life. In this context, it is expected that the actions carried out within the framework of this project will lead to a qualitative leap in quality and participation in international research projects.
