Under the slogan “You cannot imagine what a euro launches” last May 6, the Spanish Association Against Cancer (AECC) took to the streets to raise funds for cancer research.

Marquee AECC at Barcelona downtown became a laboratory where researchers from IDIBELL and Valle Hebron Research Institute (VHIR) could answer questions from citizens about how cancer research is done.

In this edition, the AECC has adopted white iris flower as a symbol of hope and has installed a vending machine of this flower. It is a gadget activated with one euro that triggers various gears to expel a natural flower. They were distributed about four thousand. This mechanism simulates the importance of collecting funds as a means of funding research for new treatments that allow, in the future, alleviate or cure patients.

The organization awarded last year five research projects grants in major research centers of the country, VHIR, IDIBELL-Catalan Institute of Oncology, Clinical Hospital of Barcelona-IDIBAPS and Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences of the International University of Catalonia.
