What is the scenario for health research in 2013? What are the priorities for the coming years? Antoni Andreu, deputy manager of Assessment and Development Research Institute of Health Carlos III has sought to clarify these questions at a conference on 25 January at the small hall of the University Hospital of Bellvitge.

Antoni Andreu has advanced the principles governing the new State Plan for Scientific and Technical Research and Innovation 2013-2016 (PEICTI) that is expected to be adopted in the Council of Ministers on Friday February 1. “This new plan,” said Andreu, “aligns with the new European framework program Horizon 2020 with all the consequences.”

The Horizon 2020 program will be structured in three basic principles: excellence, industrial competitiveness and to respond to the problems of European society. According to Antoni Andreu has advanced, the PEICTI will share these three priorities but also committed another in what he described as an historic decision “is to enhance the talent of young researchers to ensure generational change because the worst thing that can happen is to look back and see there is no one there”.

Strategic Action in Health
The deputy manager of Evaluation and Research Development Institute of Health Carlos III has advanced that during 2013 will remain the aids to Strategic Health Action projects in order to enhance both cooperative research instruments and the translational research. “Our challenge is to implement a model of research that accelerates the transfer of basic science to clinical practice”.
