The BiomediCine Award ceremony take place on January 16th in UB Bellvitge Campus. Biomedicine was organized by Biopol’H, UB and the University Hospital of Bellvitge
On January 16th took place the award ceremony of BiomediCine, the biomedical video competition organized by Biopol’H, the UB and the University Hospital of Bellvitge. The winning videos will be chosen from seven finalists were: “Ho portes a la sang” to Nicola Scandroglio, from Associació Aedo Social Films, and “7 Minutos” by Carles Yagüez and Verónica Rodríguez. Special mention was for the documentary “De la sospita al tractament” from the Breast Unit, at the University Hospital of Bellvitge and the Catalan Institute of Oncology (ICO).
The jury considered worthy of the award for “7 Minutos” by using humor to gently and effectively to portray the everyday reality of primary care, with a speech and protest, while positive, so it comes to any type audiences. “Ho portes a la sang” has been honored for bringing a fresh perspective to the blood donation campaigns through the testimony of donors and recipients, making up a story warm and close. The quality of this embodiment contributes to proximity effect. “De la sospita al tractament” aimed at patients with breast cancer, is a very useful to answer questions and dispel fears after diagnosis. The jury considered worthwhile stimulate such productions in different hospital departments.
Awards
The impact of this first edition has been very successful, with 25 videos received from Spain. The awards consist of a specialized audiovisual course, to be chosen by the applicant, in the Escuela de Medios Audiovisuales (EMAV) plus 200 €, and a graduation of the Advanced Postproduction in the CITM/UPC Terrassa plus 500 €. At the awards ceremony, which was issued by videostreaming, have shown fragments of the finalist videos and it have been exhibited the winning videos.
The intervention of Joan Ubeda, director of Media 3.14, Mediapro producer specializing in “factual programming” and documentaries, as well as author and director of shows like Ciutadans, El Cangur, Les coses som són, Vides privades, etc. has been about documentary filmmaking and social science. The event also counted with the presence of Ramon Lopez, director of Biopol’H, and Candela Calle, CEO of ICO.
Upcoming editions
Biomedicine is one of the selected projects of 2012 FECYT (Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology) Call at the Program for Scientific Culture and Innovation. In future editions we will try to expand the scope, including an international audience interested in disseminating health issues through media. In late January, the objectives for future editions will be laid, with special emphasis on communicating the social-scientific aspect of our society.
