IDIBELL is among the 120 top research centers in the world

The Scimago international ranking of Research Institutions places IDIBELL on 115th position among the 500 most highly-rated institutions in the world in all disciplines by its index and normalized impact with an excellence rate of 27.3.

The report analyzes the scientific articles published by more than three thousand institutions in 104 different countries between 2005 and 2009 and located them in the ranking according to two indicators. On the one hand, the normalized impact factor, which is the ratio between the average impact of a scientific institution and the world average impact of publications on the same scientific discipline during the same period of time. And secondly, the Excellence rate, which is the percentage of researchers who publish articles of an institution that is among the most cited papers in this scientific field worldwide.

The ranking by normalized impact factor is led by the George Institute for International Health (Australia) and the American Cancer Society (USA). While 14 research centers in Catalonia are among the best rated 500 institutions in the world, including the Institute for Space Studies of Catalonia (8), the Catalan Institute of Oncology (33), partner of IDIBELL, or the Catalan Institute for Chemical Research (55). IDIBELL is the fourth Catalan center best positioned, on the 115 place of the ranking, close to the Spanish National Cancer Research Centre (CNIO) in Madrid which stands at the 113th position.

In the ranking by Excellence rate are located at the top the Whitehead Institute for Biomedical Research (USA) and the Howards Hughes Medical Institute (USA) with 64.43 and 61.68 respectively.
