IDIBELL participates in the Euro Rare Diabetes Project, which was founded with the goal of creating a register of rare diabetes syndromes to increase knowledge about these diseases and to promote translational research. This project, involving doctors, researchers and patient groups across Europe, is funded by the European Union
Project coordinator in Spain is Virginia Nunes, head of the Human Molecular Genetics IDIBELL and professor of Genetics at the University of Barcelona, through their research on the Wolfram syndrome.
The project was founded with the purpose of creating a register of rare diabetes syndromes such as Wolfram syndrome, Bardt-Bield or Alström among others. The ultimate goal is to increase knowledge about these diseases and promote their application in clinical research.
The project is funded by the Directorate General for Health and Consumers of the European Union (DG-SANCO) and has the participation of doctors, researchers and patient support groups from all over Europe. Diabetic syndromes are a group of rare heritable diseases linked by intolerance of the body to glucose.
